It’s Peach time and here in Southernmost Illinois the orchards, farmers markets, wineries, and restaurants are taking full advantage of what the fruit means to visitors.
Peaches provide a bounty of sweetness all Summer long. There are several stops to consider when journeying through #ShawneeForestCounty.
Flamm’s Fruits and Cream (featured on several TV shows to include Good Morning America) is a must-experience fruit stand/ market in Cobden, Illinois. Stop for your cobbler, turnover, &/or the fruit and ice cream offered seasonally. Rendleman Orchards is a marketplace and a masterful display of nature’s bounty. The market offers fresh Peach smoothies on the weekends, and you can book a stay in the orchard farm cottage; or consider the newly opened Peach Tree Inn of Cobden. The Peach Sour at the Havisham Bourban Bar is a must for the adult crowd; or try the wine infused Peach ice cream at Alto Vineyards.
If you’re looking to dine in the area, The Iron Whisk has a “Peach Queen” Salad that is superb. Enjoy a refreshing Peach tea or Peach lemonade at Faye Café in Murphysboro.
While the annual Peach Festival is in Aug. in Cobden, Illinois wakes us up to the fact the fruit is fresh and ready for picking, the entire summer packs something fun for the entire family deciding to put the Peach on top of whatever is planned.
Peach season in Southern Illinois typically runs from the end of June through August!
